Redwood Hills Event Mardi Gras

7*M

ADGA #N2200594

September 22, 2021

“Evie” is a doe that really gets us excited when we talk about potential. Her pedigree is full of well-known goats, including My-Enchanted-Acres-Candyman and Redwood Hills Atlas Carnival. She has a fall birthday, which puts her in a class all her own at our farm, and she holds that position well. We purchased her just after her first birthday from Evan Hosman in Arkansas. He bought her as a bottle kid from Redwood Hills. We’re not sure the reason, but she is smaller in stature than we expected her to be, but that isn’t holding her back.

Evie got a very slow start on her first lactation. If it hadn’t been for her snuggly attached udder, and her nice slender and well-placed teats, she likely would have moved on early in that lactation due to volume. However, but 90 days fresh she was hitting the 6.0lb/day mark, which was enough to allow her to stay. Her lactation curve was very steady with strong component values, and she met the *M requirements in all three categories by the 8th test. We’d like to see more production out of her as a second freshener, and hope she’ll produce the potential her pedigree holds. Overall though, she has a very nice udder and a great personality, so she’ll be around a while.

Evie has a very strong general appearance, despite her small size. We hope and expect that maturity leads to continued overall growth, but her proportions are great, and she appears vey mature for her age. She has very pasterns, a nice feminine neck and a good brisket extension. The breed character of her head and ears is very strong, but her expression is quirky, and she doesn’t just strike you as beautiful, even though the composition checks the required boxes. We will be breeding for more daiyness and a longer, more level rump.

DHI Records

Evie is well on her way to meeting the requirements for her milk star in butterfat and protein, making her a 7*M, during her yearling lactation, freshening with just a single buckling. She had a slow start, but we’re happy with her performance! Click here and input Animal ID NUUSA2200594 (make sure the “GOAT” selection is toggled) to pull up her CDCB Query and see additional data.

Linear Appraisal Data

2023: We were a bit surprised that Evie did not score better on her appraisal this year. However, we are giving her another year or two to mature before judging her too harshly ourselves. Evie is very compact and small in stature, compared to our others lines. She did not peak very high on her yearling FF lactation, so had a much smaller udder to present at appraisal as well. While there are a lot of things we do like about many animals in Evie’s pedigree, its possible that she just didn’t get the right genetic combination to show off those traits. We’re hoping to see a much improved score on her next appraisal.

Udder- rear- 12 hr fill, August 2023

~180 DIM, 1st Freshening

Her udder needs more capacity. We like her overall shape and texture and we love her attachements and width. We’re excited to see what maturity does for her mammary!

Udder Photos

We’re (admittedly) not the most skilled at clipping and photographing udders. Please accept our apologies for the lack of skill in these areas, and know that we provide you with the best we’re capable of giving. If at any time you want current udder photos of a doe, just contact us.

Kidding Journal @ Bluestem Acres

2023- Evie was sold to us “open” (or so we were told) in the fall of 2022. We didn’t plan to freshen her in 2023 when we saw her size but then she didn’t come into heat… so we pulled blood and did a pregnancy test. Positive! She had been covered on a buck break out at her previous home, unknown to the owner. The pregnancy went very smoothly and she kidded a single buckling at the end of January, lining up exactly with the dates of the buck escape. Her delivery was close to textbook, but we did have to help get the front feet out. He was only 6.5lbs, but Evie only weighed about 95 lbs at the time, so it took him a while to unfold. Once he did, he quickly started packing on the pounds, earning him the nickname, Pig, and we knew he was a keeper… for which we didn’t have room for at the moment. So, Kansas Bluestem Kalua Pua’a headed to Arkansas and will hopefully come back to us as a mature buck when our buck pen has an opening. Evie started her lactation really really slow, but her udder has some excellet qualities. Her foreudder is very well blended and her udder texture and teat placement is fantastic. She met the * milker requirements in butterfat and protein in this lactation, and fell only 46lbs of milk shy of the volume requirement.

Pedigree Behind Her

D- Redwood Hills Vision Masquerade 6*M

Masquerade appraised EX 90 VEEE at 3-03 in August of 2023. She’s very angular and correct in her dairy strength. Her lactation records show a high test weight of 10.1lbs at 62 DIM in her second lactation, with a mature equivalent projection of over 3300lbs.

DD- SGCH Redwood Hills Atlas Carnival 5*M

Carnival has the powerful, deep body that we want to see in our doe herd without sacrificing dairiness and femininity. Her udder is high and wide into the escutcheon, with excellent teat placement. Her lactation records show average overall production, but her yearling FF lactation of over 2200lbs is something we truly appreciate. Carnival appraised EX 90 VEEE, at 3-04 in August of 2019.

DS- *B Blissberry AC Vision

Vision is son of the infamous SGCH Blissberry RH Vallelujah, sired by *B Wingwood Farm CM Atticus. He produces beautifully shaped mammaries with consistent milk production in his daughters, while improving feet and legs. Vision, himself, is nice to look at as well, with nice open ribs and a beautiful “Blissberry style” head and ears.

S- DKGH Candyman Rockin’ Event

Event is a My-Enchanted Acres LM Candyman son out of the gorgeous SGCH DKGH Rockin’ Eve. He has good feet and legs, with lots of masculine width throughout.

SD- SGCH DKGH Rockin’ Eve

Eve was the 2nd place aged doe and 2nd place udder at the 2023 ADGA Nationals. She appraised EX92 EEEE as a 3 year old. According to her breeder, she may be their “best example of what Greenhaven Nubians strives to produce- style, function, correctness, productivity and a little bit of showring swag.”

SS- SG ++*B My-Enchanted-Acres LM Candyman

Candyman is frequently in the top 5 of the ADGA Elite Sires list for Nubians, achieving the #2 spot as only a 3yr old! He was named premier sire at the 2023 ADGA National show, and was sire of the 1st Place Senior Get of Sire. Candyman is a buck that everyone recognizes when he shows up in a pedigree.
