Kansas Bluestem Katasterismoi, as a three year old

Stella is our only daughter of Goddard Farm Sphinx and a paternal sister to Kansas Bluestem Ethel- both are does we absolutely love! She’s a late summer kid, so its always been hard to identify her peers. We sold Stella as a dry yearling in October of 2022, but asked for the opportunity to purchase her back, should that buyer ever decide to sell her. In April of 2024, as a bred doe, expecting her second freshening any day, we were given that opportunity. Stella is the exact picture of what we hoped to get when breeding her dam, Sphinx, with her sire, Zao Hot Fudge. We only hope that her production matches our expectations in her next freshening.

Stella was a first freshener with twins in 2023, at her previous owner. They allowed her to dam raise those twins, and thus, her udder was never required to stretch its capacity. When she freshened with a single kid in 2024, we didn’t see much production, we hope due to the single kid. We absolutely love the shape and placement of her teats, as well as her overall udder attachment. In 2025, she again gave us a single kid… this time a massive buckling. So, yet again, we think she’s capable of more than what she was producing, but we did see expanded capacity in her third lactation. We’re confident her fourth freshening will be “the one!”

Stella made her show debut as a young three year old at the 2024 Kansas State Fair, where she placed fourth against some impressive does. Her placement was higher than we expected, given her small udder. The judge had excellent things to say about her topline and front end. Stella showed as a third freshening three year old several times in the Spring of 2025. She brought home Reserve Champion Nubian, under Morgan Allen, at the Heart of Oklahoma show in mid-May, and stood near the front of the line in almost all the rings she was entered. Then, in September, she was a single entry four-year old (remember, late summer birthday, so she switches classes for fall fair season) at the Kansas State Fair, and brought home our first Champion rosette and was named Best Nubian Udder. We have high hopes that she’ll be even more impressive as a fourth freshener in 2026!

DHI Records

Stella fell just short of earning her * in her second lactation. We think she met the mark in butterfat, but was half a pound off on protein and definitely didn’t get there in volume. We hope to see improvements in future freshenings. Click here and input Animal ID NUUSA2193331 (make sure the “GOAT” selection is toggled) to pull up her CDCB Query and see additional data.

Linear Appraisal Data

Stella’s first appraisal was in 2025 as a third freshener. She appraised wonderfully and it confirmed, for us, how wonderful we already knew she was. Stella appraised with a final score of 88, including an excellent in Mammary System and very good in Dairy Strength and Body Capacity.

Udder Photos

We’re (admittedly) not the most skilled at clipping and photographing udders. Please accept our apologies for the lack of skill in these areas, and know that we provide you with the best we’re capable of giving. If at any time you want current udder photos of a doe, just contact us.

Udder- September 2024

~170 DIM, 2nd Freshening

While she does lack capacity, we love the shape, teat placement and texture of Stella’s udder. Here’s hoping her capacity improves with maturity.

Udder- May 2025

~60 DIM, 3rd Freshening

Stella freshened a little unevenly this year, opposite of her unevenness from 2024. She came in with amazing capacity and even more width and roundness to her arch. A beautiful udder, for sure!.

Kidding Journal @ Bluestem Acres

2024- Stella returned to us a bred doe, just a few days shy of her due date. She kidded unassisted, on her due date, with single doeling. I had been checking her regularly and watching to see her udder pop, as her ligaments had been loose for several days… however, the udder never popped and I went out for midday check to hear a tiny bleat coming from the shelter and find a freshly dropped, health doe kid. Stella had been allowed to dam raise her twins on her first freshening, but she handled me taking the kid away and being a milk-goat beautifully. From day one, she has stood well on the milkstand and is easy to milk.

2025- Stella was bred to Cozy Meadow Maximum Chrome in hopes of getting twin doelings… one for me and one to fill a reservation. She kidded on March 11th with a massive single buckling. He weighed 9.35 pounds and was appropriately named nicknamed Beast. Stella’s fantasatic udder caught the attention of a young breeder in Missouri, and “Beast” (Kansas Bluestem MC Therion) went to work as a herdsire. Stella bounced back wonderfully and began pumping out plenty of milk, as well as appraising with a final score of 88 (E in Mammary) only 30 days in milk. Her show schedule in May and June did affect production a little, but the udder was still beautiful enough to earn her Champion Nubian and Best Udder of Breed at the 2025 Kansas State Fair.

2026- We have selected a frozen sire for Stella and she will be bred via Laparoscopic AI at SEK Genetics in Galesburg, KS in mid-October. We’re still thinking pink, but we’d keep a buck kid this year, too.
