Rocking Goat Farms LuckyClover
Born: March 17, 2021
Clover is a very promising young doe in our herd. She was described as having “a cute but immature face” at our Linear Appraisal in July of 2022. Clover is the daughter of Mimi, and is sired by Cozy Meadow Royal N Ice, a buck bred by Deb Boller (Reece, KS) that goes back to the Windsong and Goddard herds. She grew well, and we freshened her as a yearling. Even at two years old and almost finished with her second lactation, Clover still had some growing and maturing to do before we see how nice she really is. She is the only doe we’ve managed to successfully breeed via AI, and that alone means she gets to stick around a while.

2*M
We love Clover’s milk production. Her lactation curves have been very steady with good volume and component percentages. She easily met the *M requirements in all three categories on her yearling lactation, and has consistently milked over a gallon evey day in her second lactation. We’d like to see a higher area of attachement overall on her udder, and a smoother blending on her foreudder. Clover has an excellent will to milk and she truly seems to enjoy her time on the milk stand. To us, attitude is almost as important as udder, and we’ll continue trying to improve her udder in her daughters, without much complaining about Clover herself.
Clover is very “dairy” in appearance with strong spring of rib. We hope and expect that maturity brings some body depth and strength to her frame, but in looking at her dam (Mimi) we are doubtful she’ll ever have the “strong” look. She has very nice front legs, but we’d like to see a shallower shoulder and more extension of brisket to go along with them. She’s a great jumping off point for continuing to develop the type we want to see in our barn.
DHI Records
Clover earned her milk star, making her a 2*M, during her yearling lactation. She had amazing production and we cant wait to see what maturity does for her capacity and production! Udder- 12 hr fill- rear, side & milked out
June 2022
10 DIM, 1st Freshening, single kid
We like the overall shape and texture of her udder, especially for a yearling FF. Her udder could use a stronger medial, higher arch and better rear attachment. While her foreudder blends better than her dam’s (Mimi), we’d like to see it extend further forward in her offspring to pull the teats just in front of the rear legs.
Udder- 12 hr fill- rear, side
October 2023
~165 DIM, 2nd Freshening, single kid
This lactation brought more capacity and production to Clover. We still see the same component issues in medial, udder height, and foreudder blending. Maturity brought improvement in arch width and strength of rear attachment. In this lactation we really started to see the nice shape of her escutcheon, and truly appreciate the size and placement of her teats.
Kidding Journal @ Bluestem Acres
2022- We bred Clover to kid as a yearling to Robinett’s-Caprines Amadeus. She was due May 27, 2022. Clover kidded two days early for her first freshening with a large, single doeling. It was textbook perfect and she did a fantastic job. All the normal signs were there: pre-labor, she didn’t throw a fit the morning we isolated her into the kidding stall, her doe kid was well positioned, Clover had a great amout of colostrum… I could keep going. Her doe kid, Kansas Bluestem Talisman was big, or rather appeared big but wasn’t truly all that large, at only 7.3lbs. She never looked like a skinny newborn and her abdominal area was “filled in” looking from the get go. We learned later, after Tally unexpectedly passed away a few days past 2 months old, that the “filled in” look was likely caused by enlarged liver, kidney and ovaries, and she also had a few other organ abnormalities. Because of that, we will never repeat the breeding between Clover and Amadeus, to hopefully avoid future offspring with the same issues.
2023: Clover was bred via AI in the fall of 2022 to Truly Ranch Magic’s Morse Code. She was the only doe that we managed to settle via AI in 2022, but hopefully we will have more success in the future. Clover kidded with a single doe kid a two days early (sounding familiar?), and managed to sneak her out while we were away from the house. Clover showed zero signs of kidding that day, and we were comfortable leaving her in the regular doe pen, instead of the kidding stall. Upon returning, we found a the healthy little doeling up and all dried off already, weighing in at 7.30lbs, just like her predecsessor, the year before. This little one, Kansas Bluestem LuckOfTheStraw has grown up healthy and large and will freshen as a yearling in 2024.
2024: Clover held her kids hostage eight days beyond her due date this year. While we expected her to kid at the end of December in 2023, she didn’t give us her beautiful twin does until January 4, 2024. Both girls presented perfectly and Clover had absolutely zero issues with delivery. The first out, Kansas Bluestem JustALuckyChrm, is brown with fading cream/white spots. She was quickly followed by “Ducky” (Kansas Bluestem JustALuckyDuck), which is black with fading cream/white spots. The twins were within ¼-pound of one another in weight and 100% healthy. If we hadn’t been confident of her due date, we wouldn’t have known they were over a week late. Clover kicked off her third lactation strongly, putting over 10 pounds in the pail on her first test of the year, quickly followed by a 12 pound test just 24 days later. We’re very excited to see this doe go through a full 305 day lactation this season, and expect a fantastic year of production from her.
