Empanada is a low casein granddaughter of our beloved Ethel. She is an incredibly tall doe for her age but lacks the width we appreciate so much about Ethel’s line. This lack of width stems from her maternal grandsire’s genetics. She is the first milking low casein goat in our herd, and we hope there to be many who follow.

Empanada freshened at sixteen months old with a beautiful, but petite, mammary for a first freshener. Her udder could easily accommodate more milk, but her production volume isn’t quite what we want it to be. We always give FFs a second chance though! Her teat placement is excellent and her attachment appears to be an improvement over Ethel’s, and her dam’s. Her udder is set further forward, lacking the desired 1/3-1/3-1/3 placement, but we expect that might change with maturity if she gains some width.

Empanada is milking nicely as a first freshener. We’re not ready to predict wether she will earn her *M this lactation or not. Click here and copy/paste Animal ID NUUSA2296717 (make sure the “GOAT” selection is toggled) to pull up her CDCB record and see additional data.

Udder Photos

We’re (admittedly) not the most skilled at clipping and photographing udders. Please accept our apologies for the lack of skill in these areas, and know that we provide you with the best we’re capable of giving. If at any time you want current udder photos of a doe, just contact us.

Udder- November 2024

~40 DIM, 1st Freshening

We appreciate a lot of things about Empanada’s udder. She has good height and nice teat placement. Her texture could improve a little and we hope for higher production in future lactations.

Kidding Journal @ Bluestem Acres

2024- Empanada delivered buck/doe twins really easily a day before her due date. They were sired by Over the Moon KUL Apollo. Her doeling sold to a new herd in Missouri, along with a doeling from Maple. The doe kid (6 lbs) came out first in perfect presentation, followed by her brother (6.1 lbs) who thought he didn’t need his front legs. After some fishing and repositioning, we got him out. Both were healthy and strong! Empanada came into milk nicely, and didn’t have much edema in her udder. She didn’t peak as high as we want her too, and we’re hoping that her milk production goes back up a little with the warmer spring weather, as can be typical for lactations that start in late fall.

2025- Empanada will be bred to Kansas Bluestem Pistol Pete, a buck who returned to us in early 2025 on our trade-in program, for fall 2025 kids. All kids will be available. We expect this breeding to add some strength to Empanada’s frame and improve foreudder blending, and possibly increase height of rear udder.
