Over the Moon KUL Apollo
ADGA #N2237090
February 24, 2022
Apollo is one of our senior herdsires. He was not a buckling we planned to retain, but his outcross pedigee intrigued us, and here we are. Not only is he an outcross himself, but he is also almost an outcross on most of our doe lines. Therefore, we’re really playing with fire when it comes to breeding for consistency, but there are so many things we like about him that we haven’t let him go.
First, we love his temperament. He is never pushy and while he does get rutty, his demeanor is still mild when being handled. Apollo is confident enough to get does bred quickly, but not too pushy and aggressive that he scares the younger does, either. Next, we love his depth of chest and the rest of his front end. From a young age, he’s had a great and deep heartgirth that has really added to his uphill appearance. His neck is thick and he has plenty of dairy wrinkles throughout. Apollo seems to pass on his well angled rear legs and correct feet to his daughters. We also appreciate his width throughout, and hope to see that carried into the rear udders on his progeny.
Apollo’s parents come from two distinct lines of breeding. His dam line is all Wingwood Farm and his sire’s line is mostly Goldthwaite. Both of these are styles that we love, and that other breeders have had success crossing. Apollo’s dam, Over the Moon Lovin Astrid, did not get to milk to her full potential before developing mastitis as a second freshener. Astrid’s mammary, see photo below, had great height and width, with nice large teats of a good length. Astrid’s dam, Wingwood Farm Sweet Anise, made the ELITE list as a yearling first freshener, and had a large a capacious mammary and great will to milk. Anise appraised VEVV 86 as a yearling, following along in the footsteps of her dam, Wingwood Farm Lucky Antares. Antares milked 2500 lbs in her yearling lactation, and received a final score of 90 VEEV as a three year old. Apollo’s dam-side pedigree also includes Wingwood Farm Ami Tiger Lily, Wingwood Farm Tim Aminance, Wingwood Farm Blue Taiwan and, let’s not forget, My-Enchanted-Acres Rnboskittles.
Apollo’s sire includes many Goldthwaite animals worht mentioning, like Godthwaite Lady Juliette and Goldthwaite Painted Lady. He’s also backed by some great bucks, such as Goldthwaite Merlin, Goldthwaite Black Tie Affair and Goldthiwate Tied Up In Silver. While the Goldthwaite herdname might not be as well-known today as the herdname Wingwood Farm, the animals are no less worthy of praise. Goldthwaite Juliette boasts a high DHIR lactation of 2,820 lbs of milk as a two year old, and we expect that those milky genetics were passed down through the generations to Apollo.

Kids @ Bluestem Acres
Kansas Bluestem Sunkissed Lulu- senior kid, September 2024
2023- We retained one doe kid from Apollo in 2023- Kansas Bluestem Sunkissed Eden, out of Ethel. Eden freshened in October of 2024.
2024- We currently have two 2024 doe kids by Apollo in the herd. The first (technically a 2023 birthday) is the result of an accidental breeding of Apollo to his paternal sister (Over the Moon KUL Fantasy). Kansas Bluestem Sunkissed Lulu is a gorgeous and correct girl, who catches my eye as she moves around the pens. The other is KitKats Sunkissed Auxesia. Aux is a beautiful doe, out of Hawkeye Farm PBF Demeter, with loads of potential and we can’t wait to see her fresh.
2025: We hope to retain a few kids from Apollo in the Spring and fall kidding seasons in 2025.
