Over the Moon KUL Fantasy

November 18, 2017

Fantasy is a wide and healthy doe bred by Ashley of Over the Moon Nubian Dairy Goats.  Ashley states that she is an incredibly easy keeper, which her first year with us has demonstrated well. Her dam line and sire line both go back to Goldthwaite genetics. Fantasy shows a nice, wide udder with a beautiful arch. Her rear legs are set nicely with good angles, and we appreciate the dairy quality and texture of her udder. We love her general appearance and hope to establish her type as “normal” in our herd.

Over the Moon KUL Fantasy- October 2022

ADGA #N2006656

1*M

Fantay's udder is very pliable with teats of a nice length. We hope to improve the teat placement and rear udder attachmentin her daughters. She has a gorgeous head that displays wonderful breed character. I would be happy to see her pass her rear legs and rump on to her offspring, along with her excellent body capacity. Fantasy’s one downfall is personality. She’s incredibly shy, nd is occasionaly difficult to catch. Her shyness also makes her rather jumpy/reactive on the milkstand, and she’s a regular for kicking the bucket. Fantasy does ok with machine milking, as long as the tubes are kept off her legs, and she seems to prefer machine milking over hand milking.

DHI Records

Fantasy earned her milk star, making her a 1*M, during her first lactation with us. While we hoped for higher production, we appreciated the steadiness of her lactation. Linear Appraisal Data

Fantasy scored very well in our July 2022 LA session as a four year old, third freshener, always freshening with twins. The appraiser commented that if we could get a triplet freshening out of her her mammary score might improve as she’d be filling it to a better capacity. She tied with Mimi for the highest overall score in our herd, but was the only doe in the herd to recieve an E (excellent) in one of the four main categories. She also receives an E in the head, rear legs and rump structural categories.

Our 2023 appraisal session was at the end of September, and Fantasy had been in milk since mid-January. We feel that her score reflects that she had been in milk a long time, even though the appraiser did not code her stale.

Udder Photos

We’re (admittedly) not the most skilled at clipping and photographing udders. Please accept our apologies for the lack of skill in these areas, and know that we provide you with the best we’re capable of giving. If at any time you want current udder photos of a doe, just contact us.

Udder- side- 12 hr fill, March 2022

30 DIM, 3rd Freshening

Her foreudder blends well into her abdomen, but we'd like to have it extend a little further forward to better achieve the rule of thirds. She lacks strong rear udder attachment as well. I don’t believe she ever filled to maximum capacity during this entire lactation.

Udder- rear- 12 hr fill, April 2022

45 DIM, 3rd Freshening

She has an excellent medial and a nice, high udder with teats ending above her hocks. We would like to have a slimmer teat, placed closer together and will be breeding to improve them.

Kidding Journal @ Bluestem Acres

2022- We purchased Fantasy in January of 2023. Her seller was unsure about her pregnancy status, but we were willing to take a chance on buying an open doe late in the season. However a blood test confirmed pregnancy, and about a month after arriving here, Fantasy kidded with twin does (for the third time). One, a beautiful silver, stayed here and is Over the Moon KUL Fancy Fern went to some freinds in Fredonia. The second had a severe parrot mouth and failed to thrive because she couldn’t properly latch. Fantasy kidded unassisted, hiding in the corner of the doe barn, having displayed no “normal signs.” We’re very glad it all went smoothly since we weren’t there to assist. Fern was DNA’d to reveal her sire was also her maternal grandsire, providing a doe kid nicely linebred on a few Goldthwaite greats.

2023: Fantasy was bred to Cream O’ the Crop P-NutBrittle for early January kids. She gave us beautiful triplets on January 14, 2023, four days past her due date! The doe kid is fancily spotted and is remaining here to work in our herd, Kansas Bluestem Phortune Cookie; one buckling went to work locally in a 4-H herd, Kansas Bluestem Phrench Toast. Phrench Toast was the first out and full breech. Fantasy required assistance, but did not appreciate it. Sam had to push all the progress back in to get one rear foot and a rear hock released, and then he was born without issue. After a long pause, Phortune Cookie finally arrived with a very small cotration and she flew to the ground. The third kid, also a buckling, presented head only, and had severly contracted tendons, making it very difficult to get his legs pulled forward so Fantasy could push him out. Unfortunately, he failed to thrive, also due to a parrot mouth and inability to latch.

2024- (really it was 2023 again)… Fantasy was accidentally bred earlier than we intended to start breeding season in August of 2023. We had the bucks in a temporary pen to clean up a little overgrown brush. Several does had cycled in the week they’d been in there, and all the boys had stayed put… but I guess Fantasy was irresistable. On the day of her standing heat, Player found a hole in the pen fence and spent a few unsurpervised hours with the ladies in the morning. Upon discovery, we put him back and patched that escape route. Then, Amadeus found another hole in the pen fence, and spent less than thirty unsupervised minutes with the ladies that afternoon. When we checked the calendar to determine her due date, we were a little dismayed when we saw it was Christmas Day. The holiday came and went, without delivery of kids, and in true Fantasy fashion she did it on her own time four days later on December 29, 2023. The smaller doeling was first out, without a hiccup, and followed slowly by her much larger brother. He had one front leg back, so we had to assist. It’s a good thing Fantasy is a big doe, who has delivered big kids before or he might not have come out. The doe kid weighed 5.80lbs and her brother weighed 9.0lbs. We ran parentage DNA on the kids to determine the sire. Fantasy never skipped a beat after delivery though, and went on to put over 10.0lbs of milk in the pail for her first milk test of the lactation on January 13, 2024.
