Kansas Bluestem PhortuneCookie

ADGA #N2276806

January 14, 2023

Phortune certainly inherited her dam’s love for food- there hasn’t been a day that goes by that Phortune doesn’t lick her pan clean while on the milkstand. That gluttony has also yielded a doe who carries around a lot of extra fleshing and really doesn’t show off her frame very well as a result. Her front end assembly is very nice and we appreciate the length of her rump and overall width throughout. Phortune’s udder is also much like her dam’s with very wide-set teats but excellent height and attachment. We hope to improve on teat placement in her daughers.

Phortune’s sire, P-Nut, is the foundation sire to our low AS1C line of Nubians. Phortune is AS1C B/N, making her a transitional goat for that line, and we’re eagerly looking forward to adding an AS1C N/N daughter to the herd one year. Her wild spots and spunky attitude make her a barn favorite. She’s been out of the barn a few times to shows, but never placed at the top of her class. We expect she’s going to be more of a milk-horse than a show-horse, and likely won’t bring her out very much.

Phortune is a cute little doe out of Over the Moon KUL Fantasy and sired by Cream O’ the Crop P-NutBrittle. She’s as wide as she is tall and easily keep sher weight during lactation. We appreciate her width and length of body, as well as udder attachment. Her production wasn’t that high as a FF, but only delivering a single, and being a young yearling, we didn’t expect much.

Phortune will likely not earn her milk * until her second lactation, due to freshening with only a single as a young yearling. We expect production to be high with average component content. Linear Appraisal Data

2025: It is unlikely that Phortune will get appraised in 2025 since she will be heavy bred at the time of appraisal. We hope she gets scored in 2026.

Udder Photos

We’re (admittedly) not the most skilled at clipping and photographing udders. Please accept our apologies for the lack of skill in these areas, and know that we provide you with the best we’re capable of giving. If at any time you want current udder photos of a doe, just contact us.

Udder- May 2024

~30 DIM, 1st Freshening

We really like the shape of Phortune’s udder, but her teats are wide-set and do wing outward a little. It is our hope to correct this in her daughters.

Kidding Journal @ Bluestem Acres

2024- Phortune kidded a giant single buckling in mid-May, two days early. At 8.3 pounds, he was too large for her yearling frame to deliver unassisted, so we helped pull once his head was out. He thrived immediately, and is actually a herdsire for a young herd in Oklahoma (Kansas Bluestem RL Teller). Phortune, like her dam, tends to pick up excess fleshing easily. She began her lactation strongly, her metabolism got the best of her, and she started putting the milk-ration calories into layers of fat, instead of milk about 60 days in milk. We hope we can make some adjustments to management in her future freshenings. Phortune held her (low) production well through the length of her lactation, so we know there’s a “milk goat” in there somewhere.

2025- Phortune is bred to Over the Moon KUL Apollo for early May kids.
